Celebrate Snow Days with Sock Puppets!

Cure cabin fever by conversing with homemade sock puppets.
The "polar vortex" has parked itself in my front yard and it's too cold to contemplate opening the front door, let alone leaving the house...

So, what's the best way avoid becoming a half-crazed shut in during this blast of arctic weather? The answer is obvious- make a sock puppet and become a fully-crazed shut in!

I used an old (and only slightly worn) sock and strips of an old t-shirt for the hair and inside of the mouth. Also inside the mouth is strips of cardboard. The eyes are embroidered on with black thread.

Back Home & Other Random Little Things

I'm back home from my trip to Oklahoma City where I visited my sister's family. She has two young children and while I enjoyed seeing them it was very exhausting trying to keep up with an infant and a toddler. One of the highlights of my trip was getting to see a three legged jaguar at the Oklahoma City Zoo.

Upon returning to work (I work in retail), a random creep tried to pick me up. Which happens fairly often, but this one was a random married creep... He was staring at me over his wrap-around sunglasses and asked if I had a phone number (which I don't give out as a rule). And he casually explained that he was "married but curious". Ugg. But he did take "No I won't give you my number" as an answer. I just feel sorry for his poor wife...

And at least I don't have that blind trucker with a dent in his forehead after me still.

Oh and seeing as how I am home now, it would seem that I owe you that Overguilds update that I promised last week....

Out of town this week. (I hesitate to use the word "vacation", since I have been spending it in a house with two small children!)

So, my next Overguilds update will have to wait until I get home, but i did manage to find time to make this red and white striped sock monkey for my three-year-old nephew. I'm sure he will hug it and squeeze and love it forever... then pull it's arms off.

Well, I hope he waits for a few days to pull it's arms off! And I made extra sure to reinforce the stitching on the arms and tail, so here's to hoping...

What Does Your Blog Say About Your Personality?

So I found Typealyzer, site that analyzes a web page and attempts to predict their Myers-Briggs Type Indicator from the writing. It sounds fascinating to me so I thought I'd try it out on my blog.

It was classified ESFP (Performer).

I especially like the picture the site uses with the description:

While I do recognize some of those traits in myself, however the algorithm works it is going to be heavily influenced by content of the blog. In other words, I've written thus far mostly about cult movies and craft projects and in the process written the phrase "totally awesome" more often than any human being over 14 should be allowed to.  If I wrote a bunch of articles about differential calculus or linguistics, I doubt the Typealyzer would assign the same type.

I would add that I did have a Myers-Briggs test administered to me about ten years ago. It came back ISFP, but I've lived a lot (and switched genders) since then, so I suppose it's plausible I'd score differently if I took a test again.

Snowmageddon 2

We had a another big snowstorm today, less than a week after the last one. Although it was big snowstorm, it wasn't as big as the one we had last Thursday, nor was it as big as everyone had feared. People were so spooked of the snow yesterday that we had a run on milk and bread at the grocery store and Kansas City declared a state of emergency before the snow had even started. It may not to be totally foolish however, as I heard on the local NPR station that 8 of the city's plow trucks ended up off the road this morning.

Now it's mid afternoon and the temperature is right at freezing. he roads are clear and I can see people out and about out my front window. All in all I got less than six inches of wet, sloppy snow that stuck to the side of my maple tree. And... looks like I will be able going to work tonight, which is good. I became bored out of my skull after three days of being snowed in last week.
